tickled pink!

this is the big smile that was on my face when i opened my mailbox and found a big padded envelope from stampington & co with this inside!

such a fun surprise before christmas when staci dumoski emailed me about featuring my blog in the next issue of artful blogging! ( it was a heart attack enough just seeing her name in my email inbox! )
i had a hard time waiting for my copy to arrive. i started seeing little peeks around blogland. i was ready to go buy a copy because i am so impatient, but my barnes and noble sold out in one day! lucky for me it arrived this week. ( i had plans to drive to the next barnes and noble 60 miles away :)
for the past two days i have been enthralled with the photos and text from all the inspiring blogs featured. right on the cover is a beautiful silver glitter star surrounded by roses by my art friend marilyn! her blog outside the lines is featured as well and shows such a lovely collection of her amazing photographs.

there is pink everywhere i look today! here is a stack of flocked hankies just waiting to be remade into some new project. the little heart is made from some vintage fabric i found at quilt market last spring and the tiny pearl beads are from a broken vintage necklace.

even more pink, here is the little card i made to go inside my art nest trades. i am having such a hard time printing off copies.
how do you do it??
i have tried scanning and printing, copying at the copy store, having the copy store scan and adjust the image and every time it comes out blurry because of the depth of the items i glued on. i dropped it off at the photo shop to have a digital image taken in a photo box but isn't there an easier way to get a nice image reproduced?
please share your tips. . .

then with all the pink happiness i've had this week the valentine fairy (my daughter hannah) stopped by and left this for me. she is sweet- the fairy and my hannah.

  4. And, I take my originals to the copy place inside Office Max where they do it on the computer in their area. I use heavy weight paper, and it looks fabulous! They also have the ability to print multiple copies on one page!

    Hannah is quite an artist!

  11. Love the sweet fairy my your Hannah. I have a Hannah too. I'd just take a good picture of your artwork and then reproduce that. It is hard to avoid the blurriness on any kind of scanner when scanning something dimensional. Its lovely!!

  13. I loved your article and your blog! You are inspiring! I'm a "baby blogger" (3 posts so far - ha!), and I finally have time and materials for all of my crafting dreams and endeavors. I literally just put down the mag. after reading with great enjoyment your article. I am feeling a little more hopeful after reading about the Post-its in the mag's as a way to reach other artists. I live in a rural, art blackhole and I too see that someone is buying those Somerset pubs. They must have similar interests....time to go make Post-it msgs!! Congrats and Thanx.

So nice to hear from you! I am so excited that you live in Springville! It would be wonderful to meet you and get together! You asked about the picture of the frayed flower on my blog. I am pretty sure that is from Manon Gignoux's site. She is an incredible clothing designer. She was featured in the newest issue of World of Interiors magazine...a wonderful article! There's also a video on Youtube about her; it is in French.
    I will email you, soon!!

    Hi Julie,

your work is delish girl! I LOVE this sweet card.

You're going to need to photograph the piece at a high res with a quality digital camera, then download the pic and if you're PS savvy, do your thing there with it. You'll be infinately more satisfied with the results if the artwork is photographed and then reproduced from the digital image.

    Hope this is helpful.

I'll be peeking in on your world again.

Congrats on your inclusion in Artful Blogging. I think the 2nd issue is so much better than the first - mostly because so many artists which aren't normally in the mag are included. Your art and your article were great! I'll check back often.

    See you soonly, Dede

Dear Julie, I just got my copy the other night, and read about your art group today. I am very interested in starting an art group in my hometown. Would you be willing to share more with me about how you got started, what you do at meetings, etc.? I like the Post-It Notes at Barnes & Noble approach, but hoping for more detail.

    Please e-mail me at
